Losing a loved one or the ability to make or communicate your own decisions is difficult. Here at Williams Hortor, we can ease the burden for you by providing advice and support on matters pertaining to probate.
What is Probate?
Probate is the legal process for dealing with the property, money and possessions of a deceased person. A Grant of Probate is a legal document that can be used to access the deceased’s bank accounts, sell their assets or settle their debts, and deal with their estate.
Before the next of kin or executor (person named in the will to administer the estate) can claim, transfer, sell or distribute any of the deceased’s assets, they may need to apply for a Grant of Probate.
During the Probate process, a will is proved to be valid (if the deceased person made one) and there is confirmation of who has the authority to administer the estate of the deceased person.
It is called a Grant of Probate if the person left a will. If the deceased did not leave a will you will need to apply for a Grant of Letters of Administration.
Please note that we only deal with uncontested Probate and Letters of Administration
